Pardon the Friday buzzkill: Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has squashed rumors about a new Rage album being in the works.
“You know, the band is not writing songs, the band is not in the studio,” Morello told MTV News yesterday. “We get along famously and we all, you know, intend to do more Rage Against the Machine stuff in the future, but beyond sort of working out a concert this year, there's nothing else on the schedule.”

The rumors sprouted after misinterpretations of a Zack de la Rocha interview last year in the Chilean news publication La Tercera.
Some publications that picked up on the rumor are blaming Google
Translate for the misinformation; other pubs cite de la Rocha's stage
banter during Rage shows alluding to a record being in the works. Either
way, it looks like it's not happening.
On the upside, RATM's only booked 2011 performance happens in SoCal on Saturday, July 30, headlining the L.A. Rising Festival. The venue has yet to be officially announced, but the LA Times reports that producers Golden Voice and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum have a deal nearly locked up. Muse and Rise Against are confirmed for the show according to the festival's event page; rumors that Snoop Dogg will be added to the lineup are still unconfirmed at this point.
