Two Orange County beaches cracked the top 25 in a travel website’s list of the best beaches in the United States.
Depending on the currents, someone could get washed out to sea at No. 16 Newport Beach and be brought back in with the tide at No. 22 Crystal Cove State Beach near Laguna Beach.
The beaches are recognized in TripAdvisor.com’s annual Travelers’ Choice Awards, which are based on the quality and quantity of tourist comments about places over a 12-month period.
Newport Beach gets the nod for being “safe, clean and convenient,” while Crystal Cove is singled out for its “nice beach” and “great restaurant.” Is that the date shake shack?
No California beaches cracked the top five, which are (in order): Clearwater Beach, Florida; Lanikai Beach, Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii; Siesta Beach, Siesta Key, Florida; Saint Pete Beach, Florida; and Wai’anapanapa State Park, Hana, Maui, Hawaii.
The TripAdvisor rankings did have one a Cali beach in the top 10: La Jolla Shores in San Diego, at No. 8.
The site’s top five beaches in the world are: Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos; Baia do Sancho, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil; Playa Paraiso, Cayo Largo, Cuba; Anse Lazio, Praslin Island, Seychelles; and Cayo de Agua, Los Roques National Park, Venezuela.
