First off, this column has finally been acknowledged for its nerdy brilliance with an award! The Orange County Press Club awarded me the “Real OC” award–essentially, the story that best tells the essence of Orange County. The panel of judges weren't OC reporters but rather outsiders, so they were reading the column on its merits rather than any reputation, good or bad, that I may have. So guess what, pathetic fanboys? From now and forever more, you gotta call this column “award-winning” because it's the TRUTH. AHAHAHAHA.
Where were we? Ah, yes: our OC pioneer that was Klan. This week, it's Dr. Walter W. Davis of Brea.

Davis was, like many KKK members during the 1920s, a World War I veteran and a doctor. He became the health officer of Brea upon his return, which essentially meant he was in charge of the city's well-being. Being Brea was mostly oil derricks and citrus groves at that time, that meant most of Davis' patients were working-class white wildcatters and Mexican pickers–wonder which client base Davis preferred?
