Sources tell the Weekly that Orange County Register editor was out as of an hour ago, and that about 50-70 other employees, mostly on the sales, circulation, and marketing side, are also being let go.
“He was saying his goodbyes” in the newsroom, according to one source.
The Orange County Business Journal broke the Curley story about half an hour ago. I’m driving…somewhere, currenlty pulled over on the 405, but will have more info soon. This happened on the day before Digital First Media assumed control of the Reg, and just a day after sources tell the Weekly Digital First honchos were overheard saying the following:
“A small group of us will be down in Orange County working to quickly change their organization and make it a sustainable profitable entity…..I promise you we will quickly do what has to be done.”
Also said: They would get the Register staff “to scale,” whatever the hell that means. More—much more—to come…
