Anything on the antipasti menu at Il Garage that has a leaf icon needs to be ordered. The distinction indicates the item came from the garden, possibly plucked inches from where you sit.

But one item, if it's still offered in their ever-rotating seasonal menu when you get there, is extraordinary. The seared artichoke has almost nothing done to it. Except for being halved, the firm, tight hearts are browned with olive oil. It's vegetal soul is concentrated and unmarred by anything else. You eat it by slathering on the supplied aioli dipping sauce–a homemade substance that possesses a lemon-juice zing good enough to be scooped up with a spoon and eaten like yogurt…something I'm not to ashamed to say I did.
