No. 64, Yakisoba Dog from Dogzilla

This summer, the ad gals at the Weekly have been hosting Food Truck Fridays (I know, I know: clustertrucks are SO 2009). It's been a great way for me to catch up with luxe loncheras, and the one I keep visiting again and again is Dogzilla. I've long liked their Asian-inspired franks, but one I hadn't tried until the Food Truck Fridays is the yakisoba dog.
]

Are the Dogzilla guys from Hawaii? Because this effortless fusion–the King's Hawaiian Bread roll, the hot link with a nice snap, the messy yakisoba noodles soaked in okonomi sauce, the sweet bite of the red ginger, and that brilliant finish of crunchy aonori–is as pleasing and nuanced as a plate lunch. The great thing about the dog is that its structural integrity remains: the noodles stay in place, the wiener doesn't slip, the bun soaks up everything but doesn't turn into a soggy mess. And those noodles: I almost want to take them out and eat them separately, so vast and filling they are. But on the hot dog, they add a slipperiness that make you hope the luxe lonchera craze stays with us a couple more years–or that Dogzilla open up a permanent place.
