No Use For a Name Frontman Tony Sly Dead at 41


Tony Sly, lead singer and songwriter for San Jose punk band No Use for a Name died today at age 41.

An investigator with the Santa Clara County Medical Examiners Office has confirmed her agency is in possession of Sly's body.

“It appears to be a natural death, but the body hasn't been examined at this time,” said the investigator who declined to give her name. She didn't offer any further details.

“Fat Mike” Burkett of NOFX, who signed the band to his label Fat
Wreck Chords in 1993, released a statement via the label. “One of my
dearest friends and favorite songwriters has gone way too soon. You will
be missed.”

No Use for a Name began in San
Jose in 1987 and were originally known as a hardcore punk band. They
found mainstream success in the '90s with a poppier sound, releasing
nine records including their last effort, 2008's The Feel Good Record of the Year. Reports as far back as 2010 stated that the band was at work on another as-of-yet unreleased album.
