Ike's Love & Sandwiches, a Northern California chain, has opened a branch in Fountain Valley at a former Capriotti's. The grand opening is today and it follows on the heels of Ike's Love and Sandwiches in Newport Beach, which also took over a failed Capriotti's location on MacArthur earlier this summer. Another Ike's is poised to open in Tustin. Though the Tustin location has not been announced, it wouldn't be wise to bet against The District since there's also a defunct Capriotti's space there waiting to be occupied. If you're not familiar with the chain, Ike's boasts sandwiches on Dutch Crunch, SF Sourdough, and whole wheat bread. The menu is split into two categories: “Meat” and “Veggie”, with some sandwiches named after celebrities such as John Wayne, Robin Williams and Steve Jobs. Sandwiches average about $10. It also should be noted that the Newport Beach levies a 50-cent “healthcare surcharge” with every order.
