It’s a very interesting week in our Grub Guide. We’ve got cheap dogs, unlimited frozen yogurt and wine— eats/drinks we’ve all subjected ourselves to at some point. There is pretty much something for everyone in this edition. Let’s get this round up started.
Urban Produce Farm Store Grand Opening – Irvine
If you are one to frequent farmers’ markets for your grocery restock, stop by 1 Marconi, Suite F this Saturday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a different kind of market. It’s the launch of Urban Produce’s weekly farm store, where 100% of their produce is organic. Priced as wholesale, this recurring pop-up is a first for the indoor vertical farmers. Choose from seasonal and year-round items like heirloom tomatoes, mini seedless watermelons and microgreens. Selection is based on availability, but will include items from other USDA-certified farms. Plus 10% of proceeds will benefit Bracken’s Kitchen, a local non-profit combatting the issues of food insecurity and poverty in Southern California.
Yogurtland’s Flavor-Filled Adventure Party – Santa Ana (Bristol St)
For you old-school gamers out there (and by old, I mean children of the 80s who loved their Nintendo), Saturday is the day to cruise by 3930 S. Bristol Street, Suite 110 between noon and 10 p.m. for some nostalgia with your fro-yo. For five bucks, get unlimited, 16-ounce cups ‘o dessert. Their 10 new flavors include Bowser’s Dragon Berry Tart, Yoshi’s Honeydew, Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake and Mario’s Chocolate Gelato. Stay long enough to spin the prize wheel and check out folks dressed up for their costume contest. Remember that this is only happening at the Yogurtland across from South Coast Plaza, because how awkward would it be to show up dressed as Luigi at a different location?
Wienerschnitzel – 55-Cent Dog Day – All over the place
Did you know it’s National Hot Dog Month? Neither did we. But the world’s most wanted wiener didn’t want us to forget. In fact, they’re celebrating with a hot diggity deal this Monday. Check it out: Original Chili Dogs, Mustard Dogs and Kraut Dogs will be sold for only 55-cents all day on July 11. Thanks to their 55th anniversary, Wienerschnitzel is offering this deal at less than half their regular selling price. Now, not every location is participating— so call first. But to the places that are, you can order up to 10 dogs! That’s like treating your coworkers to lunch or something.
Coming soon: Newport Beach Wine and Food Festival – September 29-October 2
Why are we promoting something over two months away? Well, at least three of their activities are already SOLD OUT. Dinner with Hubert Keller and a 100-point wine tasting experience are two less things to think about this fall, but you’ve still got time to purchase tickets for the daytime festival, happening over two days at the Newport Beach Civic Center. Some of our favorite chefs will be in attendance, including Brian Huskey (Tackle Box), Pascal Gimenez (Cafe Beau Soleil), Steve Kling (Five Crowns/SideDoor) and Jo-Jo Doyle (Honda Center). Savor the sights and bites from them and so many others. You may want to Uber to this one.
Ongoing: Industry Night at Mesa – Costa Mesa
We didn’t forget about some of the hardest working people out there. Every Tuesday night, the gang at Mesa is honoring you until 2 a.m. Anybody in the service/arts industry is eligible by bringing a qualifying paystub or business card. You’ll find discounted small plates, cocktails, and shots like The Young American above— PBR and a shot of Seagrams 7 for $10. We’re eyeing the Wild Style animal fries.
