Welcome back to another edition of OC Grub Guide! Our carefully calibrated algorithms constantly collect data on all things that satisfy your appetite. In other words, we're always searching for events that involve eating and drinking. Send us a message the next time you hear about an event . . .it may end up in a future guide.
Grocery Outlet Ribbon Cutting – Orange
New store openings usually mean free swag. In this case, it's FREE Bruxie! You heard us. Visit 1803 East Chapman Avenue starting at 9 a.m. today to join in on the festivities. Note: This is different from the grand opening celebration on Saturday. At 10 a.m., the Orange Chamber of Commerce will officiate the cutting. Then the Bruxie luxe lonchera will be on site between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to offer up free lunch (with purchase). One waffle sandwich per person, while they last.
Avila's El Ranchito Celebrates 50 years! – Santa Ana
The Avila's over at 2201 East 1st Street (near the 5/55 interchange) will be partying down from 5-10 p.m. this evening. Stay for the mariachi band, entertaining the crowd from 5:30-7:30. Remember to enter the raffle to win a beach cruiser or $50 certificate. Or simply spin the wheel for a bunch of other prizes, like t-shirts and nachos.
Chefs Challenge at the OC Fair – Costa Mesa
Here's where we get to shamelessly plug our appearance at the OC Fair. Tonight, yours truly will be inside the OC Promenade at 5 p.m. to judge the Chefs Challenge. The Instagram-driven topic: Put An Egg On It. Interpret as you will, but the winning dish will not only photograph well, but taste pretty damn good. Afterwards, we'll be hunting down dessert. While you're there, stop by Blackmarket Bakery's booth for some treats only being sold during fair season.
National Oyster Day at Shuck Oyster Bar – Costa Mesa
If shellfish are your jam, head over to Shuck tomorrow for lunch you can slurp. The promotion going on revolves around National Oyster Day. Stop by and earn your swag, such as a free oyster for the first 100 diners. In addition, the first five receive a t-shirt. But wait, there's one more! The next 15 standing in line receive a hat for their troubles.
Wienerschnitzel celebrates National Root Beer Float Day – all over the place
The folks who specialize in hot diggity dogs are cooling you down on Saturday for National Root Beer Float Day. Follow the link to their exclusive coupon, good at participating Wienerschnitzel locations only on August 6. You don't even have to print it, either. Just save the coupon image to your phone for when you're ready to order. Valid with any purchase from them.
National S'mores Day at Holsteins Shakes & Buns – Costa Mesa
Yep, it's another one. How much do you love the marshmallow, chocolate, graham combo? Bet if we throw in liquor, it'll go down quicker. Holsteins wants you to swing by and celebrate next Wednesday with their bamboozled Campfire S'mores Shake ($13). Imagine your trifecta of ingredients whipped together with Smirnoff marshmallow vodka. We're getting tipsy just thinking about it.
