It’s rude, it’s rowdy, it’s intimidating—but the rewards are plentiful. For those who haven’t been to a roller-derby match, it’s time to grow a pair and get down to the Anaheim Convention Center and watch the Orange Whip face off against the Traffic Jammers. Believe it or not, in addition to the beer-swilling, tattooed-face set, this type of event has quite a bit of family attendance. And the girls who don the pads and wheels have the inspirational fortitude and fearlessness of Viking warriors. For this one, the girls compete on a banked track—which should make for some added fireworks.
