If your eyelashes are still a-flutterin' from Baz Luhrmann's latest cinematic whirlwind, and you've been scouring flea markets for years, searching for that perfect Tamara de Lempicka print—then head to the Bowers Museum for a lecture on one of the most beautiful art movements of the last century. Join Irini Vallera-Rickerson, Professor of Architecture and Art History, for a lecture titled “Optimism And Opulence: The World of Art Deco.” Starting in the early 1900s and flourishing on an international level in the '30s, Art Deco was all about ornate, futuristic pieces, taking inspiration from the luxurious French Art Nouveau movement, and made its mark on architecture, fashion, cinema and art. But Deco Devotees already know that. Our imaginary dream house is entirely Art Deco, top to bottom—complete with Leonardo DiCaprio, whose only duty is to make champagne toasts.
