As impossibly overcrowded as OC's festival season was this year, there were bound to be casualties. Yesterday it was announced the second annual Outpost Festival originally scheduled to take place November 12 in Downtown Santa Ana, has been postponed to 2017. No specific future date has been provided.
The reason for the community-driven event’s delay following a flurry of non-stop fests around OC from August to October appears to stem from an overall lack of interest by vendors, performers and customers, although no specifics from the organizers were provided. Though the fest isn't happening next month, that doesn’t mean that ticketholders will be left out to dry. Outpost's organizers say that full refunds will be available at the point of purchase. The festival, which debuted last year, went pretty smoothly its first time out, garnering solid attendance and a receptive crowd. The event was headlined by Cold War Kids and featured bands Blonde Redhead, Beach Fossils, Tijuana Panthers and Guards, and event curators Delta Spirit. The festival also featured local clothing stores, artists, food vendors and craft beer.
This second run was largely expected to exceed year one’s level of success with a lineup of headliners Matt & Kim, and supporting acts like BØRNS, Real Estate, Cloud Nothings, Cayucas, Oyster Kids, Luke Scott MacMaster, Ellie Mae and the Riccochets and more when it was announced in August. However, in a note provided by the Festival’s producers, it seems the hype wasn’t quite living up to expectations.
“The team behind Outpost Fest has made the decision to reschedule as we do not feel all festival elements, as they presently stand, will exceed the high expectations set in the events first year,” the note said. “We will continue to develop the music, art and culture experience and once again feature a live performance by curators Delta Spirit.”
It is unclear if the 2016 lineup will continue on into the new 2017 date with the addition of Delta Spirit to the bill, or simply be replaced altogether.
The single day music, art and cultural event held on the streets of Downtown Santa Ana is the brainchild of two members of Delta Spirit, Jonathan Jameson and Brandon Young.
