Forbes reports that Andrew Cherng, chairman of Rosemead-based Panda Restaurant Group, is “working on some angles” in a possible expansion into mainland China. The company, which includes Panda Express, Panda Inn and Hibachi-San, has more than 1,400 stores in the States.

While easy to think that the people of China would scoff at shockingly sweet and deep-fried interpretations of Chinese cuisine, the fact is, they'd probably love the stuff. They've already embraced American restaurants like McDonald's, Starbucks, Dairy Queen and Papa John's. And dishes like Sweetfire Chicken Breast and Cream Cheese Rangoons would be as new to them as fortune cookies.
