You’ll leave your first visit from Kelly’s Korner Tavern in Placentia as a friend but by the third visit, you’ll become part of Kelly’s ever-extending family. Since 1990, Kelly’s has been pouring craft beer and serving up some of the best bar grub this side of the 91 freeway – and recently, Jim Rafferty and crew were awarded best business in Placentia by the Chamber of Commerce.
Seven days a week Kelly’s serves as a home away from home to those needing a break from work, or sports fans looking to watch a game on one of the 25 flat screens that surround the interior of the Tavern. Pool tables and dart boards add to the fun distractions and on Thursday’s the popular Pop Quiz Trivia hosts a highly addictive game of team trivia, shout out to Who Mortimer. And the food at Kelly’s is next level bar grub thanks to Chef Cris Kiroz, who cooks up a special Steak Dinner on Saturday night’s (look out for a special Valentine’s Dinner coming up). Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 3-6pm with 37 beers on tap – offering everything from Bud Light and Guinness to local craft breweries like Bottle Logic, Network Brewing and Towne Park Brew. The list rotates frequently and they bring in top shelf, hard to find brews from across the nation.
Zero Mustafa (7% ABV) is a collaboration between Mason Ale Works from Oceanside and Offshoot Brewery from Placentia. A unique brew that combines Citra, Mosaic, Vic Secret and Amarillo hops in the second phase rather than the boil to tone down the bitterness of the IPA while still delivering full flavor. Citra and Mosaic bring the piney notes and Vic Secret adds the aroma of pineapple and passion fruit.
At 5.5% ABV, Maine Beer Company’s Peeper delivers a perfectly brewed American Pale Ale. The folks at Maine Beer Company got this recipe right and it’s now their flagship beer. Using Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial hops and vienna and red wheat malt, this delicately hopped creation gives off hints of spice and raspberries.
