Last weekend’s Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival left (11,500) attendees with the difficult decision of choosing between 150 local craft beers to taste and leaving room for tacos. But thanks to the influx of activities and entertainment – a music line-up that included high energy Ska from Los Kung Fu Monkeys and classic punk courtesy of the Vandals and motivation from world champion eater, Takeru Kobayashi, who demolished 154 tacos in ten minutes (last year Kobayashi set the world record by inhaling 159 tacos) – everyone happily trudged on.
Complimentary beer tasting began at 1pm (noon for VIP) and ended at 4pm, plenty of time to get some great tastes in before the major music acts took the stage. Local breweries like 4 Sons Brewing, TAPS Fish House and Brewery, Artifex Brewing and Chapman Crafted Beer were pouring their best suds for the beer loving masses. The most popular beer, based on beers that ran out the quickest was the Pennywiser Session IPA (4.8% ABV) from Lost Coast Brewing in Eureka, billed as “the Bro-Hymn of beers.”
Last summer Lost Coast and Pennywise from Hermosa Beach released Pennywiser Session IPA, the first collaboration that Lost Coast has done with a punk band and the first beer Pennywise agreed to be associated with. The beer is dry hopped with Cascade, Crystal, Chinook and Citra hops – founder, Barbara Groom played with a few different versions before the band agreed that this was the best formula – refreshingly hoppy with crisp citrus. And at 4.8% ABV you can sip on Pennywiser from the beginning of the bands set to the classic Bro-Hymn that they always end with without getting sauced.
Shout out to Brew Ha Ha Productions, Synergy Global Entertainment and all the volunteers that made Sabroso Craft Beer, Tacos & Music Festival an epic event.
