What a get for Detroit Bar: Mr. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” himself, Peter Murphy! You’ll be close enough in this cozy little space to prickle at his icy breath or bruise yourself on those cheekbones. This is the man who gave Goth its veritas with Bauhaus, and then turned into a cloud of smoke and drifted up the pop charts afterward, establishing himself as one of those musicians who’s going to pretty much live forever. (And he knocked the other ex-Bauhausers Love and Rockets out of the No. 1 slot, too.) A recent collaboration with Trent Reznor (covering the Normal’s “Warm Leatherette,” a song Peter Murphy spiritually owns) proves the darkness that got him started still persists. It’s gonna be as close to the opening scenes of The Hunger as you can get in real life without committing yourself to some serious depravity.
