You might wanna call Phil Hendrie the Frank Zappa of radio, except even that doesn’t quite reach how positively unpredictable and painfully hilarious he can be. For decades, he snared caller after caller in increasingly more ridiculous conversations, thanks to a preternatural gift for vocal impersonation and an ability to figure out what makes the person on the street go nuts. His best shows were him refereeing a hilarious mess between some totally incensed member of the public and one of his bottomlessly irrational characters explaining in relentless detail why it was OK that they, say, followed a customer into the parking lot to beat them up for not tipping the waiter. He’s now transplanted to the Internet and touring a one-man show that concludes with a live Q&A with anyone in the Hendrie menagerie, which alone is worth the admission and then some.
