You might not have the cash to board a plane to the South Pacific, but that doesn't mean you can't be part of an island trip. The Light Gallery in Costa Mesa is dusting off a hallmark of the ‘60s that brings out the beach combing surfer in all of us: the wonderful world of Tiki Art. The gallery is hosting the TIKI FREAKout group art exhibit with works produced by 24 local artists. This is more than a bunch of garage sale torches and cheap mugs slathered in paint. The variety of colors, island exotica and pop culture satire spliced in these recreations of mystical island folklore inside this twisted Polynesian paradise is enough to make you scratch your oversized Tiki-God head. Better bring your board shorts for this one.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 19. Continues through Aug. 16, 2008
