Pacific Northwest's hardcore scene comes to Southern California by way of tonight's show at Alex's Bar where legendary punk group Poison Idea comes to play. Having formed in the early 80s, Poison Idea's caustic, loud and heavy hardcore music set a precedent for future hardcore, grunge and metal acts to follow in their intensity. Although their band trajectory has been rocky— the band has split, changed lineups and been in hiatus numerous times over the years, and sadly lost original member Tom Roberts in 2006— their musical output, which is heavily influenced by LA's early punk bands like The Germs and Black Flag, laid out a template for how to incorporate other non-hardcore influences into a gripping whole. After all these years, there's still proof that Poison Idea have the moxy to move forward with their explosive tracks, as you'll witness tonight.
