Beer collaborations keeo popping up throughout Orange County and it’s a beautiful thing. Two brewers coming together to create a craft beer that represents both styles of brewing – and we’re the lucky stiffs that get to enjoy the union. Other partnerships include coffee and beer collaborations, that are resulting in some inventive and unique flavors. The best example of this being Tustin Brewing Co. head brewer, Jerrod Larsen and Jeff Dugan of Portola Coffee Roasters, who teamed up on an exciting new brew called Tustin Portola Breakfast Stout (8.9% ABV).
The beer features Portola’s Myanmar Lay Ywar coffee beans – grown by the Danu Community in the Shan region of Myanmar. It has notes of plum, creme de cacao, merlot and a mild, crisp acidity. Combined it’s a blend of rich chocolate, toffee, roasted coffee and malts. Larsen plans to present the collaboration beer at this year’s World Beer Cup, held in Nashville, Tennessee on May 3rd, along with his Golden Spike Light Ale (4.8% ABV) – 2009 medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival. Congrats to Larsen and Dugan on their collaboration and good luck at the 2018 World Beer Cup!
