If you've been disconnected from the feminist revolutionary grapevine for a few years, let us tell you the story of Pussy Riot. Back in 2012, the unapologetically anti-Putin Russian band filmed a video performing at Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior, eventually being stopped by security. The following month, the three members were arrested and held without bail for four months until their trial. The conviction? “Hooliganism.” The sentence? Two years. Two fucking years. The documentary Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer follows the story, and includes interviews from friends and family members, as well as footage of legal proceedings—interestingly, no interviews with the band members themselves. Because sometimes a message is so much bigger than the person conveying it. Come to Hibbleton tonight for their weekly film screening, and prepared to get really pissed off.
