Ratatat

Mike Stroud and Evan Mast aren’t your typical musical duo. By all accounts, it’s unlikely that they would be making such a splash in the music world, but thanks to computer technology, these two have taken the scene by storm with their home-spun, laptop-generated sound. Using inexpensive programs like GarageBand, Ratatat holed up in a Crown Heights apartment and produced their first album by plugging a synthesizer, guitar and bass directly into a PowerBook, dropping beats and making the electronic sound that wound up on their self-titled debut in 2004. Three albums later, these two are on a world tour. No million-dollar recording costs or glad-handed label reps necessary.
