Pop open a bottle of champagne and do a thousand happy dances. You guys, I've found the perfect pair of jeans!
Anyone who has ever been locked in a fitting room with a pile of denim rejects knows this is like discovering the Golden Ticket of fashion. There's a seemingly infinite number of things that can make a pair look frumpy, cheap, mom-ish or just less than wildly flattering. The company that has finally addressed our most common gripes with the American classic (saggy knees, flat butt, etc.) is—drumroll, please—Madewell! Yep, J.Crew's sister store has revamped its denim collection, and it's fabulous.
Here's why these jeans are my new favorite:
The fabric is stretchy and sturdy. Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit jeggings do serve a purpose (elasticity for that extra doughnut), but the problem is that by the time 5 p.m. rolls around, they lose their shape. Madewell's new jeans are made with a fabric that stretches yet snaps back for a just-outta-the-dryer fit that lasts all day. I wore them all weekend, constantly squatting down to pick up my 7-month-old, and never once did they look crumpled.
They've got a higher cut. Read: No more muffin top. Hallelujah!
They're super-soft. I even napped in them. The fabric's dual-fiber yarn is wrapped in cotton, giving it the worn-in feel of heritage denim.
My ass has never looked better. Madewell's new jeans promise to do “some pretty life-altering things to the rear view,” which is what caught my attention in the first place. What life-altering things?! The new fabric gently hikes up your backside for a little extra . . . oomph. Proof that it works: With my hair disheveled and shirt covered in baby drool, my husband walked past me in the kitchen and said, “Nice butt.” Um, I'll take it!
The jeans, which retail from $115 to $128 (a splurge, but worth it), come in 12 different washes and four signature styles. (I love the Skinny Skinny!) The store also offers in-house hemming.
