As we announced last month, after years going without, Santa Ana finally regains its farmers market beginning today. The market–I'm apparently not allowed to call it a tianguis–runs from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. today and every Thursday on the promenade in front of the Yost Theatre, near the Playground.

It's fortunate, too, that the market runs in the evening. The only other nearby market that runs in the evening is the Anaheim farmers market, also on Thursdays, though it tends to run long on crafts and short on produce. The Santa Ana market is run by former Yost chef Kerri Cacciata Minton, who is an urban farmer and food forager in her own right; the management team, which includes Dennis Lluy and Sean Coolidge, are planning cooking demos and information as well as produce and local artisanal goods.
We're looking forward to checking it out. May it turn into a real tianguis sobreruedas rival to Irvine and Laguna Beach.
