Evans Brewing Co is the oldest operating brewery in Orange County. Previously known as Bayhawk Ales Inc. they've been brewing beer in Irvine since 1994. Bayhawk was the best local brewery you never heard of since they were making house beers for many restaurants here in Orange County until father-and-son team Evan and Mike Rapport of Yorba Linda came in and offered to merge their own award-winning brew. After taking over the daily operations, they rebranded as Evans Brewing Co.
In September they hired Kevin Hammons as Director of Brewing. He previously worked at the Bruery in Placentia from 2009 to 2016. Even bigger fall news, though, is the opening last month of The Public House by Evans Brewing Co. in downtown Fullerton. Occupying the space formerly held by Steamers, The Public House offers 20 beers on tap, craft cocktails, delicious food and music just about every night of the week. Refer to their website for the calendar of events!
The Rapport boys' beer game is strong here. Joaquin Dead Mexican Red (5.2% ABV) is easy to drink and malty with caramel notes and toffee on the back end. It's a good beer to have with one of the pizza's that are baked in the the full view open kitchen, but guys: what's with the name? The OC Pale Ale (4.2% ABV) is fresh and crisp, and the malt is more pronounced in this pale ale—you get a nice tang at the finish.
And then there's the krHOPen IPA (6% ABV). This IPA has it all: hops, citrus, tropical fruit, very well balanced, smooth, no bitter aftertaste. It's one of the more enjoyable West Coast style IPAs I've had. EVER!
There's plenty more suds from Evans Brewing Co. on the menu: a chocolate porter, brown ale, honey blonde and they have a nice guest beer list from the other local breweries. There's even a cider that our Mexican-in-Chief. So when Gustavo drinks , everyone drinks—HA!
