Silicon Valley Leaders’ Immigration Reform Plea is Coming to Nixon Library

Who would’ve thunk that a presumed Republican presidential nominee like Donald Trump could publicly roll off his forked tongue anti-Mexican rhetoric that’s even more rude than that discovered in the secret Oval Office recordings of Orange County favorite disgraced son Richard Nixon?

What’s that, young Anonymous masker? You don’t know of these secret Oval Office recordings?

Nor, gulp, Richard Nixon!?!

Well, Nixon was a president, like Obama, only Dick kept his promise to end a war.

Tapes at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda include the following:

“I have the greatest affection for them [Negroes] but I know they’re not going to make it for 500 years. They aren’t. You know it, too. The Mexicans are a different cup of tea. They have a heritage. At the present time they steal, they’re dishonest, but they do have some concept of family life. They don’t live like a bunch of dogs, which the Negroes do live like.”

Nixon apologists say you have to put that in the context of the times—which was 1971, when even the queen of etiquette Letitia Baldrige characterized Mexicans as dishonest thieves (or at least I’m going to imagine she did). But at least Tricky Dicky and Lady Letty only called those folks thieves, as Trump did, and not rapists and murderers, as Trump also did. Sheesh.

The put-it-in-context chatter is also to be listened to when it comes to the Yorba Linda shrine to Dick, which is also the site of an event at the end of July “on immigration and the need for reform,” according to organizers.

These organizers do not represent members of the usual Latino/Korean/civil rights/human rights coalition that has long been calling for comprehensive immigration reform but a group founded by tech leaders like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Marissa Mayer.

Zuckerberg wrote an op-ed when the nonprofit FWD.us was announced that called for:

1. Improved border security.
2. An immigration policy that is biased in favor of attracting extremely talented and hard-working people.
3. A path to citizenship for current and prospective immigrants to the United States, including those who are here illegally.
4. An improved employment verification system, though not necessarily E-Verify.
5. Mandatory Facebook membership and willingness to be tracked.

OK, I made up No. 5. And Marky is not scheduled to be at the July program at the Nixon Library.

But FWD.us President Todd Schulate is, as are an unnamed member of Congress, Dollar Shave Club CEO Michael Dubin and Sinan Kanatsiz, chairman of the San Clemente-based Internet Marketing Association.

Kanatsiz, who alerted the Weekly to the upcoming event in an email, promises more details to come.
