UC Irvine’s in-house celebration of exemplary civic behavior began with actress/UN advocate Charlize Theron, and its final spring program features the Dalai Lama himself (which you’ll never get tickets for). But this speakers series is liberal Newport Beach philanthropist Kelly Smith’s idea of a good time. As part of her “good deeds” ethos, Smith’s local Center for Living Peace is working with UCI to bring big, sexy, religious and business names and local activists to the same party. This week’s guest is Sir Richard Branson, billionaire British industrialist—so take notes. His own nonprofit charity, Virgin Unite, tries to model good corporate behavior against the dominant paradigm. A limited number of seats is available to the public.
