The bassist of nu-metal band Slipknot was found dead in a hotel room in Urbandale Iowa today. The Associated Press reports that a hotel employee found 38-year-old Paul Gray, and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Urbandale is a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, where most of the band grew up.
The band was known for its tortured, frightening aesthetic, and wore macabre masks while performing onstage. Their first album, released in 1999, sold more than a million copies. Slipknot won a Grammy in 2006 for best metal performance for the song
“Before I Forget.”
