Snoop Dogg (a.k.a. Lion a.k.a. Zilla) is on some kind of all-things-to-all-people streak these days—just last month, he released 7 Days of Funk, his immensely satisfying collaboration with LA’s unstoppable Dam-Funk, and now he’s decamping to the Observatory to do an all-the-hits set at one of those rare shows that truly does appeal to all ages. And please note that he’s also cleared an opening slot for Vince Staples, the up-and-coming Long Beach rapper who’s already won admiring co-signs from members of Black Hippy, the breakout LA hip-hop group home to Kendrick Lamar. (Who were playing the Glass House not so long ago, if you went after we told you to go!) So behold something old—well, more like something classic—and something new from the Doggfather, godfathering a new moment in hip-hop and sounding great as he does it.
