Nima Kazerouni is So Many Wizards with or without local collaborators, and his new Love Songs For When You Leave Me EP—coming to iTunes and some adorable handmade format you can keep with your fingerpaints—collects together a winningly screwball set of influences that overlap only for their charm and idiosyncrasy. Syd Barrett’s around and Marc Bolan, too—both barefoot—and the cork-on-the-ocean-era Brian Wilson (“Like No Other,” which even starts with the word “California. . .”) and maybe Nikki Sudden and Joe Meek and Doug Martsch—and what’s this mean for you? It means you’ve got one multi-instrumental heart-on-his-sleeve kinda guy with so much bright light behind him that you can’t see his face for all the sparkles. This album must have been a great Valentine for somebody.
