Dating back to the heady—or should we say “head”-y, and then pretend like we just inhaled deeply?—days of ‘70s campus film festivals and pioneering DIY animators, the Spike and Mike Festival of Animation is up there with New Wave Theatre and Liquid Television for exposing the masses to risk of mental mutation. And the Sick and Twisted offshoot is the most potent strain they’ve got. Onetime launch pad for folks like Mike Judge and South Park’s Matt Stone and Trey Parker, Sick and Twisted delivers curated freak-out content in a way YouTube just can’t match. As any kid knows, there’s just something primal about little cartoon people violently and hilariously going nuts on each other—the term is “magic,” isn’t it?
