You are the lady by the OCTA station at night with the sunglasses on and the yoga mat rolled up under your arm. There are a ton of really stupid laws in American society, but basic traffic rules usually tend to be the exception and are there for a reason: to minimize any doubt about what to do in any particular situation and make things run more smoothly, more predictably and, above all, more safely for everybody. Politeness is not really an issue. So when you had the crossing signal and tried to graciously defer to the car that was waiting to make a right turn by waving it through before you stepped out, you ignored one fact: that I had that same crossing signal and was already more than halfway across the intersection, coming from the opposite side. Suppose you think about whether that driver could have been just as inattentive as you and took your invitation?
