You might have eaten black-eyed peas for good luck on January 1, but in much of OC, New Year’s is also in late January, when it's time to celebrate Tet. One of the best and biggest festivals of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Dragon) in the world is, no foolin’, in Garden Grove, USA. Spending your day in the heart of Little Saigon guarantees prosperity, good fortune and a fun-filled family afternoon of music among yellow flags and red ribbons. There’s a Chinese chess tournament, Miss Vietnam of Southern California competition, talent shows and a creative writing contest. Lots of the best Vietnamese food but absolutely no booze, smoking, rudeness or disrespect. Tet is all about inviting good luck and avoiding bad, toward making sure that you are there again next year, to pay homage to community and tradition, and to look back on what we trust will have been a very good old year gone by.
