A 46-year-old Garden Grove man showed up Garden Grove Fire Department headquarters Tuesday morning to turn himself in for “murdering” his wife with a meat cleaver—in front of their 7-year-old son, according to police.
Thang Van Nguyen was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, said Garden Grove Police Lt. Bob Bogue.
That was after the suspect took officers before 7 a.m. to his apartment in the 12700 block of Flower Street, where 44-year-old Huong Nguyen was found conscious but suffering from multiple stab wounds to her head, according to Bogue, who reports the wife was placed in a medically induced coma at UCI Medical Center in Orange “due to the dramatic brain injury.”
The couple’s 7-year-old son, who may have been in bed with his mother at the time of the attack, was placed in the care of an uncle, said Bogue, adding a 19-year-old son was also home but did not witness the incident.
The Nguyens were experiencing marital problems before the attack, Bogue said.
