In rock & roll, as in life, there are moments of explosive outbursts of emotion, just as there are moments of quiet introspection. Sub Pop's Album Leaf, a.k.a. Jimmy LaValle, creates a lush soundtrack perfect for the latter moments. The music is moody without being overbearing and features soft accents from such instruments as xylophone and keyboards, powered by the trudging engine of some groovy drumwork. Imagine Modest Mouse after having a few glasses of wine with good friends just before sunset.
