Last month, Austin-bred drone-rockers The Black Angels released Indigo Meadow, a fuzzed-out collection of experimental opium rock. Taking their moniker from Velvet Underground's “The Black Angel's Death Song,” the group found a comfortable niche between '60s psychedelia and blues when they broke out in 2005. It's been a steady ride since—putting out a well-received album every few years and backing up Roky Erickson on his 2008 West Coast tour. The new record maintains the haze but hypes up the melodies—they presented “Don't Play with Guns” as the first single, though we prefer the trippy “Love Me Forever” and “I Hear Colors (Chromaesthesia).” Tap into your dark side and head to the Glass House where The Black Angels play with the excellent rascal Hanni El Khatib.
