The Segerstrom Center's Off Center Festival gives Orange County a taste of truly unique, artistic, cerebral theater—and of all the performances, The Car Plays wins for most inventive format. Theater-goers are paired up two-by-two and car hops usher them from vehicle to vehicle. There, in a delightfully voyeuristic way, patrons watch as actors plays out a scene—from another seat in the car. Creator Paul Stein took all those personal events that happen in a car—breakups, makeups, profound conversations and moments of solitude—and turned that concept into a theater experience on a wholly avant-garde level. Within one hour, audiences enjoy five plays in five cars—and always get the best seat in the house.
