The Princess Bride seems like it’d fit right into Mel Brooks’ collection, next to Robin Hood and Blazing Saddles. It’s full of stereotypes, goofy dialogue, and a bad guy with a Napoleon complex. Who else would transform Billy Crystal into a Jewish troll wizard, and record Andre the Giant’s lines for him because he couldn’t read? Maybe the only giveaway that it’s not a Mel Brooks film is the fact that Mark Knopfler wrote the film score. Still, it’s almost inconceivable that the director of this 1987 comedy cult classic is the same man responsible for Spinal Tap and The Wolf of Wall Street—the only thing Rob Reiner’s movies seem to have in common is the strange use of little people. You know those Rodents of Unusual Size in the Fire Swamp? Animatronics didn’t move that fast in the '80s, princess.
