There just aren't very many literary-driven events in the OC (but don't call it that) at the moment. Sure, you've got whatever bad spoken word there is being penned in mental anguish by university students and the occasional open-mic night (that is normally plagued by singer/songwriter types all aspiring to be the next Jack Johnson), but thanks to local quasi-celebrity poet Lee Mallory's efforts, there may be an answer for those seeking something more than monster-truck rallies and Ducks games. Mallory often organizes-sometimes hosting, sometimes performing-his well-known gatherings of performance poetry and live music. This Tuesday, Jaimes Palacio will host a night of poetry by Carrie Seitzinger and Paul Suntup at the Santa Ana Gypsy Den, complemented by the music of Courtney Montgomery. Where else can one enjoy a low-key night in celebration of poetry and music . . . while enjoying a delicious iced banana mocha?
