Sweden’s TSOOL—always wondered what TSOL thought about this—have ideas too big for a music industry that’s continually shrinking, pushing out maxi-sized concept albums about thought and time that sound like Bowie was passing strident notes on philosophy to prime-era Pretty Things. They are not a singles band; instead, they’re a single-sitting band, rewarding listeners with depth and deft performance of rock & roll’s most acrobatic tricks across the course of an entire album (but this works live, too). Their newest is a greatest-hits compilation—but TSOOL care a lot more about the greatness than the hits.
