Edwin took a little time off but he did review Pier 76 in Long Beach, and commended their high quality – yet affordable – seafood. Gustavo visited the Taqueria Guadalajara Lonchera that put-puts around Santa Ana for his Hole in the Wall review. Then he gave details for entering our hot-sauce contest with KCRW (psst, on Oct. 5!), and he wrote a surprising response to the recent chef poll that named the OC Register's Brad Johnson the worst food critic.

Anne Marie told us that Alcatraz Brewing at The Block (I'm not calling it the Outlets at Orange, ever, sorry) is closing! That restaurant has been on the corner as long as we can remember, and we're still wondering what will fill its place. Next she announced that Chef Alessandro Pirozzi will be opening a second location for Mare Culinary Lounge, and she interviewed Terry Shapiro from Cafe Rae for her On The Line column.
Gabriel San Roman took over this week's countdown of the best dishes in Orange County. His favorites were the fugazza at Pasta Connection, the salpicon at Nancy's Pupuseria, and the soulrito at Papa's Fish and Soul Food. Dave named the Speedway Stout from Alesmith the Drink of the Week – its second win! And last, Sarah took us to Milk Barn Pizza and Dairy (is there supposed to be a comma somewhere?) for her Long Beach Lunch.
