Placing an eatery by the water can be a tricky investment. Ideal conditions are a likeable concept, prices that don't break the bank and blue skies with perfect waves. Former Top Chef: New Orleans contestant Brian Huskey is about to take the plunge, officially opening Tackle Box – Local Grub Shack next month.
Situated at big Corona del Mar beach, use the lifeguard tower as your point of reference to locate him. Huskey introduces a selection of eats covering breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Describing Tackle Box's menu as “quick, simple and unique flavors that appeal to the masses”, expect sandwiches and bites made with locally sourced ingredients. Tastes we're curious about include an avocado tartine, featuring smoked salmon and hard boiled egg (served on their Sunrise menu); a chowder chicharron, consisting of pork rinds smothered in New England-inspired clam chowder and bacon; and a chickpea and edamame falafel sandwich, dressed with chipotle tzatziki.
A series of pop-ups and soft opening shifts begin this weekend and through early July, with their grand opening scheduled for Wednesday, July 8. Once fully operational, hours will be from 8 a.m. to sunset. We'd tell you more, but as of this post, social media accounts haven't been established. Best to learn more from their website.
Tackle Box – Local Grub Shack will be located at 3029 E Shore Ave, Corona del Mar, (949) 723-0798; www.tackleboxoc.com.
