Sibling rivalry can be intense (just look at Cain and Abel) and in Suzan-Lori Parks’ 2002 Pulitzer-winning dramatic play, this literary theme is explored (minus the murder) through brothers Lincoln and Booth (names given to them by a cruel parent) with their tug-of-war for power and one-upmanship as they attempt to escape their life of poverty through cons and thievery. After being abandoned by their parents as boys, the men now must depend on each other for survival as they cheat suckers on the street and, ultimately, each other in this comic drama about race, poverty and the healing power of family.
