Garden Grove, the long, tortilla-less wait is over. After months and months of construction (ever wonder why it seems to take restaurants in Garden Grove twice as long to open as any other city in OC?), Flor de Mexicali has finally opened and is selling the best corn tortillas in the county from two locations.

No GRUMA Maseca porquería here; dried flint corn goes in, and tortillas come out. The tortillas are old-school, with no preservatives, just nixtamalized corn and water. They render their own pork for the lard to be added to masa para tamales, and that means they sell carnitas and chicharrones, as well as pan dulce.
The grand opening is this Sunday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Tortillería y Panadería Flor de Mexicali, 12859 Chapman Ave., Garden Grove; (714) 621-0180. The new tortillería is located in the Vons plaza and is open 7 days a week from 6 a.m.-9 p.m; the O.G. tortillería is located at 1212 S. Bristol, Santa Ana.
