Inspired by Philip K. Dick’s short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, director Paul Verhoeven sent post-Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger and pre-Basic Instinct Sharon Stone to Mars in 1990 for a violence-laden, terraforming thriller that was one of the last sci-fi films to be relatively untouched by CGI. That garnered the identity-crisis trip a special Oscar for fx, and makes it a beloved classic for those who still yearn for retro rubber-bulging-eyes masks that actually now, do look kind of silly. Check out this dusty red relic on the big screen as part of the Regency’s weekly Classic Film Night.
