UPDATED at 3:45: This statement was posted Feb. 3 on Ignite's website regarding the band's future: “Many of you know that Zoli has been filling in on the vocal duties for Pennywise since their longtime singer Jim Lindberg left the band a few months ago. Well, Zoli will be joining Pennywise on their month long European tour starting at the Groezrock Festival in Belgium on April 24th. We are very excited for Zoli and this great opportunity for him to sing in one of the greatest punk bands of all time! Dont worry Ignite fans, Zoli is not quitting Ignite and we are not breaking up either, we will continue to write, record and tour with Ignite as long as our fans want us to continue!” Doesn't sound like Zoli's new “official” status as Pennywise's singer changes things but we are attempting to contact Ignite for confirmation.
Pennywise announced today that Zoli Teglas, of Orange County's Ignite, is the their “new and permanent” lead singer. Teglas has already played with the band at recent events such as the the Benefit Show for Amnesty International that took place at the Long Beach Arena on Dec. 19.
Teglas replaces Jim Lindberg, who suddenly quit after spending nearly two decades with Pennywise, which formed in Hermosa Beach in 1988. The influential punk band is recording a new album featuring Teglas before going on tour next month with shows in SoCal–but none in OC/LBC– and then dates through Europe starting in April.
“I'm stoked to be singing with Pennywise,” Teglas said in a statement. “I'm a huge fan of the band and am super grateful to share the stage with my longtime friends Fletcher, Byron and Randy.”
Ignite is scheduled to perform Feb. 27 at the Glass House in Pomona. No word yet on if todays' announcement will affect that show. But we're checking. Stay tuned!
