ORIGINAL POST, DEC. 18, 2012 3:18 P.M.: An 18-year-old Huntington Beach high school student accused of making a bomb threat on Friday is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon. Christopher Michael Casey is charged with one felony count and is scheduled to face a judge at the Westminster Justice Center. Authorities say Casey left a note on his teacher's desk threatening to detonate a bomb.
According to HB Police spokesman Lt. Mitch O'Brien, it is believed Casey was miffed at having to serve detention.
“It's somewhat speculative but he was serving detention at the time he wrote the note,” O'Brien said.

A secretary found the note and quickly handed it off to the principle who called police.
“When we got there, (the principle) had the kid detained and it was pretty obvious he didn't have a bomb,” O'Brien said.
Surf city cops are continuing to examine Casey's computer and talk to his friends, but it is believed the student wasn't in possession of bomb making materials.
The Orange County District Attorney's office is requesting Casey be held on $250,000 bail. If convicted, he faces three years in state prison.
UPDATE FEB. 21, 2013 3:10 P.M.: According to an Orange County District Attorney's Office Press Release, Christopher Michael Casey pleaded guilty and was sentenced today for a misdemeanor charge of reporting a false bomb threat. Judge Nho Ngyuen sentenced the the 18-year-old man, originally charged with a felony, to 140 days in jail and six years of formal probation. Casey was also ordered to remain 200 yards from the school.
