Brooklyn trio Vivian Girls fold vocals together like Dolly Mixture across a pulsebeat rhythm section like Over The Edge Wipers and happy-sloppy guitar pop like Sacramento’s Bananas—that last one being one of those underlegendary acts that launch a hundred new bands a decade later, the same way Sacramento’s Karate Party birthed a generation of awesome lurching hellrock. On the internet, horrible people treat Vivian Girls horribly, but in actual life—however dubiously actual it may yet become beyond 2010—they simply get up on stage and roar through (cymbal) hiss and (guitar) fuzz, and if that hiss-fuzz-roar combo sounds too animalistic, well, you probably just don’t get outside enough.
