Walking Sleep’s Tarp Sessions album—named after the tarp factory in which Walking Sleep recorded, which is astounding not as much because the band DIY-ed a recording that sounds studio-clear but that they found an actual factory still standing somewhere in America—is about to release on vinyl, and within it you hear an enthusiastic appreciation for the idiosyncratic indie rock of Montreal, Quebec, and Athens, Georgia (their former name The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra seemed like it came right off an Elephant 6 release). But you’ll also hear plenty of minor-key Zombies Rhodes-wrangling, melodies that flew right off of Brain Eno's Here Come The Warm Jets and even revved-up now-soul like Fitz and the Tantrums or Mayer Hawthorne. If you ever wanted the most robust carbohydrates of your record collection to form a complex chain molecule, well—behold!
